A traditional christening gown

Our children - like my siblings, my cousins, my mother, her siblings and cousins etcetera - have been baptized in the christening gown from 1901 that my mother's mother's mother sewed for her firstborn (Kristine). Modelling it in this picture is Saga Elisabeth, on her day of baptism in 2003.

The fabrics are getting fragile and a bit worn, but with care it will last for years still. I wasn't actually baptized in it since I had an emergency baptism, but I wore it at the ceremony in the church when I had grown sufficiently and was out of the incubator :)

The bonnet is newer, I am not quite sure, but I think it is from 1969. It doesn't "follow" the gown, we borrowed it for Saga from my aunt. For Cecilia Kristin's baptism in 2005 we sewed our own.
