  • Ala Moana
    Location. The largest shopping center in the Pacific, and a default stop on any trip to the islands. The name roughly translates to, "Too expensive for local folks."

    Noun. An Asian with Caucasian (or haole) personality traits. Yellow on the outside, white on the inside.

    Noun. Slang for an aggressive scolding, or "being chewed out." Usage: "Kim's with the boss, but don't go in. She's in 'counseling.'"

    Adjective. Okinawan term meaning "greedy." Used to describe girlfriends who eat from their boyfriends' plate.

  • Gangstah Mall
    Location. Also known as Pearlridge Shopping Center. Term reflects typical clientele -- affluent, teen-aged Asians who think they're poor, hip and black. Males cannot wear belts; females cannot obstruct the view of their navels.
  • GBW
    Verb/adjective, acronym. 1. To "grumble, bitch and whine." 2. Consisting of nothing but complaints. Usage: "The memo was just more GBW."
  • gifted
    Adjective. Amply endowed.

  • granola
    Noun. Usually an art major. Likes to walk around barefoot in overalls while carrying oversized backpacks. Often characterized as "earthy."

    Noun. 1. Hawaiian term meaning "foreigner." 2. Slang for Caucasian or "white person," or to describe someone who acts like a "white person."

    Noun. Slang for the noteworthy size of one's genitalia or various errogenous zones. Usually said with an appropriate hand gesture to detail type of intelligence. Usage: "Yeah, you like her because of her (cupping palms over chest) 'intelligence.'"
  • ISPs
    Noun, acronym. Intercourse Service Providers. (Syn: "prostitute.")

  • Kendall Tanoue
    Noun. Japanese male age 14-24, casually dressed, often in Mossimo, Stussy or No Fear gear. Drives a "modified" Honda or Acura, likes anime and J-Pop, and majors in business, engineering or computer science. Common accessories: backwards cap and subdued but ridiculously expensive athletic shoes. (Syn: "Glenn Miyashiro.")

    Noun. Fermented shoyu bunny. Asian females age 30-plus, often with children, who dress as if they're still 18... but shouldn't.

    Noun. The act of blaming something on the collective users of the internet. Often practiced by journalists (the newsmagazine "Dateline NBC" is credited with starting the trend).

    Noun. 1. Japanese word meaning "ghost." 2. Japanese female who doesn't get enough sun. (Syn: "moonbeam," "light without heat," "snowyu bunny.")

    Noun, automotive class. Usually Japanese imports, such as Acuras and Hondas, bearing racing and other brand stickers. Often lowered, with fog lamps and oversized chrome mufflers. Stereo system output can be detected from space.
  • pencil action
    Noun. What many girls have in place of eyebrows.
  • potato
    Noun. An person of Filipino or other dark-skinned ethnic group with Caucasian (or haole) personality traits. Brown on the outside, white on the inside. Usage: "He's such a potato, he likes country music."

    Noun, acronym. Stupid Bucket Girl. Refers to pledges for a certain campus sorority who are required to carry little Halloween pumpkin pails containing precious cargo (namely an egg) everywhere they go. Everywhere.
  • ShIT
    Noun, acronym. Shoyu In Training. Pre-pubescent or adolescent girls who aspire to be shoyu bunnies. Usage: "I hate Pearlridge... too much ShIT." (Syn: "jail bait.")

  • shoyu
    Adjective. The degree to which a woman fits the shoyu bunny profile. Usage: "Kimi? She's a little shoyu, but she's got a brain of her own."
  • shoyu bunny
    Noun. Japanese female age 14-24, lightly and tightly dressed, often in Mossimo, Stussy or Calvin Klein gear. Names often contain needless i's (i.e. Traci, Miki, Vicki). Likes hip-hop pop, shopping at Kahala Mall and dating boys with Hondas. Common accessories: laminated nametags, uselessly small backpacks and translucent pagers.

    Noun. Slang for the prevalence of attractive people (traditionally females). Usage: "What I like best about that beach is the 'topography.'"

    Noun. Any resident of south or east Honolulu whose definition of "the world" is bound by Pearl City, Hawai`i Kai, the Pali and the ocean (an area of about ten square miles).
