my co-conspirators in electronic self-exposure

Awaken
Julie Peterson does not post a daily journal, yet she has put more of her spiritual and intellectual life onto the web than anyone I've come across. She ponders the future of the web in ways I wish everyone would. One of her essays formed the genesis of several other net-related ponderings. It also inspired me to start my diary and, ultimately, Open Pages.

Jessica Thompson's online journal was the first one I'd come across. She writes almost daily, detailing her life in an "enchanted cottage." Her writing is honest, accessible, train-of-thought; her pages are simple, attractive and artfully arranged. On top of all that, she's a Burroughs fan. I'm addicted. (And she joined Open Pages!)

Overexposed
I'm in awe of Tracy Lee, living a life I'm totally intrigued by but could never survive myself. She has a biting wit, an open marriage, and a daughter she calls "Spawn." She posts occasional entries, stepping back from the web now that her professional life is picking up. She lets us share in her fun, confusion, secrets and pain. Utterly engrossing. Anyone who likes the Mighty Mighty Bosstones has to be cool. (Journal Discontinued Summer 1997)

This rich and hysterically sarcastic site makes me green with envy. Rebecca Eisenburg turns her writings into an interactive experience (she responds to e-mail for all to read). I love her writing style; she's sharp and pulls no punches. Although her journal is infrequently updated, she provides enough reading material (like "Rebecca's Rants") to keep you busy while you're waiting. True fact: she sang with Abba!

Jay's Ramblings
Fortunately for you, I'm not the only island brat going on and on about how rough (or at least mildly bemusing) life is in paradise. Jay actually found me first, asking if I'd say "Jay is great -- his page rocks my buttcheeks" here. I won't, but I will say his journal-type-thing is wonderful, brisk and quirky. He has a light, conversational style I envy. (And he joined Open Pages!)
