Once Upon a Poem

By: Jean Elaine Fuller
Date: June 23, 1977
Especially for: Robert LaTour

You asked me once to write a poem
Of anything I sought.
I couldn't decide of what to write
Although I thought and thought.

Should I write about the fields of green?
Or wierdos on the street?
Or should I write of things to come?
Or friends we chance to meet?

There are things of good and things of bad
And things we cannot dream.
Like earthquakes, wars and tragedies
And 'Playboy' magazines.

You gave me no choice of your desires,
Although I tried to fight it.
When you decide the subject you want,
I'll be more than glad to write it.
