Our First Winter in the Country

True Story

We wanted to live in the country
So we moved in in the fall.
We had waited seven long years for this,
But we shouldn't have moved at all,
'Cause our first winter in the country
Was to be the worst of all.

Michigan hadn't had a storm, like this, since '21.
Twenty-two inches of snow was cast.
(It seemed more like a ton.)
Our spirits were high, our money was low,
And our groceries? Hardly none!
The snow that piled in our yard
Was almost six feet deep.
Our neighbor plowed out half of it,
And the rest he told us to keep.

We managed to get a few groceries,
from a little town nearby.
It took us quite a while though,
The roads were drifted high.
All schools were closed and worse yet,
Fisher-Body was closed
And Bruce couldn't get his check.
We watched T.V. both day and night.
What would we do without the sight
Of westerns and commercials?

We never let this snow, however,
Move us back to the city.
We just stuck the winter out
'Til the summer came so pretty.
