Carpatho-Rusyn Orthodox Church

The American Carpatho-Rusyn Orthodox Diocese in the USA is under the authority of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople (Istanbul, Turkey,) and includes parishes in the US and Canada. The Carpatho-Rusyn (also called Carpatho-Russian) peope hark from the area of Europe roughly between the Baltic Sea and the Capathian Mountains. Though they are Slavic, they are not actually ethnically Russian. The diocese was created in 1938 from Eastern-Rite (i.e., formerly Orthodox) Carpatho-Russian Greek Catholic ["Uniate"] Churches in the US, comprising approximately 100,000 faithful, that returned to Orthodoxy.
