Marching Band Gets Fifth Consecutive 'Superior'...

The Gulf High School Marching Buccaneers presented this year's halftime show entitled A Southwestern Saga. The band saddled up and headed out to the old west as they performed music dedicated to the 'Cowboy Way'. The Bucs performed: "The Magnificent 7" by Elmer Bernstein, "Hoedown" by Aaron Copland (which features our percussion section), "Red River Valley", and closed with an arrangement of John William's "The Cowboys". After months off hard work and determination, the Marching Buccaneers received their fifth consecutive overall superior rating at their annual Florida Bandmasters Association's District 5 Marching Performance Assessment at Citrus High School on November 2nd. After performing one of their best performances of the year, the band marched off the field and earned their superior. Due to an unfortunate rule violation by a neighboring marching band, the Buccaneers were the only Pasco County band to offically receive an overall superior rating. The individual catagories were as follows:

Music #1: Superior, Music #2: Excellent, Marching & Maneuvering: Excellent, General Effect: Superior, Auxiliary: Superior, Percussion: Superior

This was an improvement from the band's performance at the Central Florida Marching Band Showcase in Lakeland in October where the band received and overall 'excellent' rating.

This superior rating is the 8th out of the 9 years since Mr. Rutherford has taken the reins at Gulf High.

Congratulations GHS Band...keep up the great work and let's go for it at concert evaluation in March of 2003!
