The Path of The
TanThe Path to NowhereTien

By Glenn Huang
Welcome to my path grasshoppah!

The Tan Tien (pronounced "Dahn T-yen") is an area of the body midway between navel and pubic bone and about midway into the body.  It is the center of original chi, [Japanese: "ki"], or universal life force energy. Everyone has one. I believe it's also where the center of your being is.  It's where your "GUT" instincts come from--your basic feelings about what is true for you and what is not.  I have found that if you follow your Tan Tien, you will rarely, if ever, go astray from your own path, whatever that may be.

Your Center, your Tan Tien, always will lead you to what is right for YOU.

Discovery Zone

Metaphysics has played a major part of my life since my dear late wife Judy passed over to the other side in June 1995.

ENERGY: Where chi energy flows, life is literally good. Whereas stuck/coagulated/stale/stagnant chi causes stress, disease, clutter, and generally makes life's difficult.

So to keep chi moving, I practice Tai Chi and Chi Kung (QiGong). Cindy, & I have both been certified to Reiki 2 since April '96, & Reiki 3 in 2002, but we've not actively practiced Reiki on others.

NUTRITION & HEALTH: Cindy is a certified massage therapist. I've been following nutritional trends for about 5 years now, and am familiar with The Zone, Protein Power Plan, Carbohydrate Addict's diet, the Glycemic Index, and other theories. I'm trying to synthesize these into one nutritional guideline that has worked for me and will continue to feed my Body for Life (yes I've done the EAS Challenge; Round 6, 1999). I hope to add this nutritional page as I get time and more focused.

TIME: Who has no time? We all do. Put another way: Who has time? None of us. More on my Time page (soon, but that's all relative).

Ponderables

Dyer Straights Wayne Dyer his own page.  Wayne is great at unmuddling the metaphysical.

Lao Tzu: "The Way that can be told is not the eternal way."

Cindy say this all the time: "It is what it is." Very Zen.

Chinese saying: "Wei wu Wei [Do don't do]"

Zen saying: "When you seek it, you cannot find it"

Rinzai: If you know that fundamentally there is nothing to seek, you have settled your affairs

From Ruby IV, the Adventures of a Galactic Gumshoe, ZBS Foundation :

"Life is always ow, OW! Living part of now, NOW!" --Ruby's Nichola Tesla

Also from Ruby IV, a conversation between Ruby and the Time-Suspender Father Mojo:

Ruby: "Father, how do I purify?"

Father: "Just do what you are doing."

Rudy: "Is that all?"

Father: "When you're doing, KNOW that you're doing."

Ruby (astonished): "That's it ??!!"

Father (laughing): "That's a lot!!"

From Ruby III the Adventures of a Galactic Gumshoe, ZBS Foundation: "It's HOW you see that creates WHAT you see." --Ruby's Sister Hellopo

      The Great Way is not difficult for those who have no preferences.
                                 --Seng-ts'an, 3rd Great Patriarch of Zen*
   ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

* This is the simpler way that Wayne Dyer and Ram Dass have expressed it and I learned it.  Here is the way that the book "Zen to Go," by Jon Winokur, quotes him:

"The Perfect Way is only difficult for those who pick and choose; do not like, do not dislike; all will then be clear. Make a hairbreadth difference, and Heaven and Earth are set apart."

Here's yet another (and I suspect more accurate) source of this quote: from "Zen Buddhism: A History," by Heinrich Dumoulin--Seng-ts'an's poem:

Inscribed on the Believing Mind

The Perfect Way knows no difficulties
Except that it refuses to make preference.
Only when freed from hate and love
It reveals itself fully and without disguise.

In the higher realm of True Suchness
There is neither "other" nor "self";
When a direct identification is asked for,
We can only say, "Not two."

In being not two, all is the same,
All that is comprehended in it;
The wise in ten quarters,
They all enter into this absolute faith.

This absolute faith is beyond quickening [time] and extension [space].
One instant is ten thousand years;
No matter how things are conditioned, whether with "to be" or "not to be,"
It is manifest everywhere before you.

The infinitely small is as large as large can be,
When external conditions are forgotten;
The infinitely large is as small as small can be,
When objective limits are put out of site.
