Toledo was the old capital of Spain before Madrid. It's a fortified town on top of a hill and has some very beautiful architecture - although I found the cathedral very garish and boastful of the wealth of the Catholic Church. The town is also spoilt a bit by tourism. It's certainly worth a visit if you're in Madrid as it's only an hour away by train.
This gateway is at one end of the bridge we crossed to get to Toledo.
