New Mexico Trip 1999 - Bandalier National Monument - 1

The Bandalier National Monument is both a National Park and an archeological site. The part of the monument we explored is a beautiful valley that contains the sites of the dwellings of the Anasazi, a civilization that lived in New Mexico prior to the arrival of the Europeans. Although the Anasazi seem to have disappeared as a distinct tribe it is likely that some of the local Native Americans are their descendents.

Bandalier is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to and these photos don't really do it justice.

Enjoying the Scenery

Looking up the valley:

Looking down the valley:

The cliffs that make up the valley walls are amazing in themselves.

A cliff face

Being a valley there must be water running through it.

the stream running through the valley
