Secondary School

These are books aimed at the middle- and high-school audience and are put out by major publishers. We have used all of the materials listed. These were taken from our first annual evaluation.
  1. Prentice-Hall Science Series, 1993-1994. A great set of books for middle-school students. The books are colorful and engaging and bite-sized for those with short attention spans.
    • The Nature of Science.
    • Sound and Light.
    • Human Biology and Health.
    • Parade of Life: Monerans, Protists, Fungi and Plants.
    • Parade of Life: Animals.
    • Matter: Building Block of the Universe.
    • Motion, Forces, and Energy.
    • Heredity: The Code of Life.
    • Heat Energy.
    • Cells: Building Blocks of Life.
    • Chemistry of Matter.
    • Dynamic Earth.
    • Evolution: Change Over Time.
    • Ecology: Earth's Natural Resources.
    • Exploring Earth's Weather.
    • Exploring Planet Earth.
    • Exploring the Universe.
  2. Addison-Wesley Science Insights Series, 1995. These are fairly substantial textbooks, perhaps suited for a semester each. They are colorful, modern and engaging and, I believe, standard high-school texts.
    • Exploring Living Things.
    • Exploring Matter and Energy.
    • Exploring Earth and Space.
  3. Holt Science Series, 1994. Another full-textbook series, again, colorful and engaging.
    • Holt Physical Science.
    • Holt Earth Science.
    • Holt Life Science.
