Friday's Child
The tale of Abigail

Book List | Characters | Links

Most everyone grew up hearing this charming little nursery rhyme... and this must be precisely where Heyer got her inspiration for the title for indeed the Friday's child is loving and giving.

No one could be as sweet as the heroine of this tale. Since her childhood, the adorably unsophisticated Hero Wantage has been sincerely attached to her friend, the dashing young Lord Sheringham. However, the young Viscount hardly pays any heed to her as he only has eyes for the noted Beauty, Isabella Milborne.

However, desperate and anxious to obtain his inheritance, Lord Sheringham determines on a marriage of convenience. And since the incomparable Isabella has rejected his advances, who else could he possibly choose but the first woman he sees who turns out to be Hero. The hapless Miss Wantage herself is in a sad state since as an orphan, she was taken out of charity and treated as the poor little relation.

Supported by his crew of best friends, Sherry embarks on this momentous occasion. Their sudden marriage stuns everyone involved especially since no one could be less suited to marriage than the two involved.

Still inclined to live out his life as free-swinging bachelor, Sherry is unprepared to deal with the trials and responsibilities of marriage while his beloved bride, the innocent Hero is wholly unequipped to deal with the intricacies and intrigues of Society.

Soon, the young couple are at odds as the young Viscount starts chafing at marriage and Hero wonders at her inadequacies. Fortunately, the duo have a trio of incredible friends to depend on. From the thoughtful, introspective Mr Ringwood to the hapless Ferdy Fakenham... And who could forget the unforgettable romantic icon, Lord Wrotham of the fiery dark eyes and the passionate, hot-blooded nature.

Lord Wrotham is also involved in the secondary romance as the dashing hero falls madly in love with the Incomparable Isabella. And though spoilt Isabella has had fretful dreams about the classically handsome Wrotham, circumstances in her ifle make it imperative for her to marry higher than a penniless baron like Wortham.
