A note on the banners.. What they do is circulate these banners to
other people in the program, whether it's GeoRewards or the I.L.E. thing,
and you display other people's banners in exchange for them showing yours.
It's not completely even, though, since your banner gets shown more often
based on how many hits you have. That's why you'll see the banner for
Junior's Bikini Page more often than the banner for Granny's Rhubarb Recipes.
It's all free, and you get to feel special because you have more hits on your page.
Eventually, of course, more banners will pop up that are actual commercials for
real products (as opposed to Average Jane or Joe's home page), so really it'll
be free advertising for them, and we "GeoCitizens" will be left much like people
who wear Nike clothing from head to toe probably not realizing they're a walking
advertisement. I mean, wearing Nike shoes is one thing, but a hat with the Nike
logo on it? C'mon, what's the point? Anyway, whatever. I suppose I can
be consoled by the fact that the web page itself is free, and I can waste
a million bytes of bandwidth without paying anything to anybody, so if they want
to advertise stuff on my free page, so be it. The important thing to remember
is that whatever banners show up on any of my pages (except for this one, where
most are banners I have in the rotation) have nothing to do with me or my
opinions. Proceed at your own risk. I've linked to a bunch of these sites
through banners on my pages. Some are pretty cool; some really stink.
I'll let you decide for yourself, of course, which ones you think are worth
checking out.
Oh, and supposedly, the points we gather by having hits on our pages
are supposed to be good for buying stuff in the GeoStore. I'm not sure if I'd
be brave enough to wear a GeoCities t-shirt, though. Wouldn't wanna get
beat up for being a geek or anything, eh?
(GeoRewards is dead, though, but I still have the banners, for whatever that's worth.. nothing you say? okay, I understand)
