Welcome to the Montfortian Spirituality page: the spirituality practised and taught by St. Louis Marie Grignion de Montfort (1673 - 1716), a French priest who worked for the renewal of the Catholic faith in the West of France at the beginning of the 18th century.

It is not just a spirituality for yesterday, though. It continues to be practised by the members of the Montfortian Religious Family: the three Religious Congregations founded or inspired by him:

  • the Company of Mary (Montfort Missionaries)
  • the Daughters of Wisdom
  • the Brothers of St. Gabriel.

And it has also been embraced by many others, priests, religious and lay people in the Catholic church and outside of it, among them:

  • Pope John Paul II
  • Cardinal Leon-Josef Suenens
  • Mother Mary Potter (foundress of the Little Company of Mary)
  • Frank Duff (founder of the Legion of Mary).

It has been the inspiration for many movements in the Catholic Church, of which the Legion of Mary is perhaps the best known. More recently, through the Legionary Veronica O'Brien and Cardinal Suenens, it has inspired the FIAT movement in Belgium and elsewhere.

This page is not an "official" page, but it offers a presentation of Montfortian Spirituality, written and maintained by a member of the Company of Mary. It is hoped it will also be a forum for the expression of genuine experiences of its practice. If you have some articles you think might help, some links you think relevant and interesting, or some experience to share which will be of benefit to others, you could .
