OPPORTUNITIES FOR VETERANS IN         THE ARMY NATIONAL GUARD

EXTRA MONEY
An E4 will earn approximately $200.00 per weekend drill.  You can also be eligible for the Montgomery G. I. Bill if interested in continuing your education.   This could earn you up to an additional $263.00 per month.  In addition to the G. I. Bill you will also be eligible for 50% free tuition to college or vo-tech.

RETAIN RANK
Generally a person with prior service can retain their rank held at last discharge.  Unit vacancies and specific MOS requirements can determine this as well.

PERIOD OF ENLISTMENT
A prior service individual can enlist for a minimum period of one year.  If they have a remaining military service obligation (MSO) they must enlist for the remainder of this period.  Any and all periods of service (IRR) are included or credited.

RETIREMENT

All prior service (not IRR) will be counted toward retirement.  Guardsmen can retire after 20 years of service.  At age 60 you may qualify for many of the same benefits as retired active duty.  These could include retirement pay, health insurance (you & spouse); military base and post privileges are just to name a few.
