Athens is a community of philosophers, teachers, and other thinkers, with a wide range of spiritual and ethical beliefs. We are an open forum, united by a tolerant attitude and the right to free speech.
We are Athens homesteaders who are interested in the growth of Athens as a "virtual" neighborhood. Our mission: to encourage homesteaders to make a contribution towards the development of Athens as a community - rather than a collection of great but mutually unknown homepages. We support everything that helps Athens homesteaders to more easily locate one another, so that we can build ties of mutual interest and friendship within the neighborhood.
Optimistically named for the Great City of Athena, Athens at Geocities is in truth a sprawling, multilingual gold-rush sort of town where tens of thousands of strangers, all fresh from the claims office, are "homesteading" where there were only virtual tumbleweeds a couple of years ago.
Undaunted, we new Athenians turn to meet our neighbors, then together join the scramble to transform our brawling village into a community worthy of its great name. We are building a vibrant city, one which we believe will endure!
Everywhere we look public-spirited projects have sprouted. Most are glorious brave facades with much construction left to do; yet the landscape is taking shape, and it's exciting to see a great "city" growing all around us.

If liberty and equality, as is thought by some, are chiefly to be found in democracy, they will be best attained when all persons alike share in the government to the utmost. --Aristotle
