Absalom Kalb was born in his parent's house that sat on the State border of Pennsylvania and Maryland. Only a distance of ten feet made him a born native of Maryland. After his marriage he took his wife to live in Frederick City, MD until 1817, when they bought 140 acres in Loudoun Co., VA near his parents.
In October of 1849 Absalom convinced his children to move their families with him and his wife to Sangamon County, IL. Absalom bought 450 acres in Rochester Twp, leaving it for son Andrew to run this farm.
Absalom moved into nearby Springfield and bought two houses near the home of Abraham Lincoln, becoming the future president's neighbor. Absalom was listed as one of Springfield's ton ten wealthiest men in 1850. He died in Springfield at the age of 78, him and Susannah are buried in Oak Ridge Cemtery.
