8 Osmium-Platinum
Name | Symbol | Atomic number | Atomic weight | Boiling point | Melting Point | Density |
Osmium | Os | 76 | 190.2 | 5012 C | 3033 C | 22.6 g/cm3 |
Iridium | Ir | 77 | 192.2 | 4428 C | 2447 C | 22.4 g/cm3 |
Platinum | Pt | 78 | 195.1 | 3827 C | 1769 C | 21.5 g/cm3 |
notes:
While Osmium is the heaviest known element, Iridium is so close that for a long time it was uncertain which was heavier.(Is this correct?)
Platinum is fairly inert, but is an exellent catalyst for many reactions, and is a component of most fuel cells.
