This striking, though faded petroglyph, may depict a hunting scene from over one thousand years ago.

If you stand on top of the cliffs, you will note the keyhole-shaped outline of the lava flow. It seems that the person that pecked this map of Keyhole Sink may have had dinner on their mind!

Digital Camera Photo Enhanced Scanned Photo

Thanks to Leszek Pawlowicz for the enhanced photo to the right.

To make the enhanced version of the Keyhole Sink panel, Leszek

  1. Scanned an original photo he took of the site into a advanced image editor.
  2. Ran the picture through a color filter that preferentially passed through the light parts while darkening the rest of the picture.
  3. Adjusted the brightness to compensate for the filtering.
  4. Adjusted the dark, light and midtones of the picture to maximize the contrast between the petroglyphs and the rest of the picture. Because the brightness balance was so different between the left and right parts of the panel, he had to do them separately.
  5. Sharpened the image up a bit.

Below is an artists sketch of the rock art. Seeing this, can you now make out the drawing on the rock? (Click on the drawing and return to the photo)
