Kuala Lumpur-Heart of Malaysia

By a quirk of fate, I had a 6 month stint of living in my country's capital, Kuala Lumpur. It was a bittersweet experience that I am glad I had for the lessons it gave me. Photographically however it was an empty place. For some reason I did not feel compelled to make images of K.L. It wasn't because I was not seeing anything new. Many facets of Malaysian life that I had heard of but never seen before were presented to me through K.L. I thought it could perhaps have been that it resisted me because it had nothing to show. It's nothingness could have been reflected in the eyes of it's people, maybe in the way I heard some speak, or how in the weekends there was nothing to do, no place to go. It may have been me, how I felt about the place. Against these feelings, I forced myself to walk around K.L to photograph it. Perhaps I would discover the reason why I hated K.L so much, or even find some reason to like it in a whole new way. But this was to no avail.

Regardless however, I resolved to still make a photographic record of the people who made up the city. Here are some of the pictures that were taken.
