They say the root of all evil is money. I'm not so sure of that. I think the root of all evil is the lack of money. For instance, if a person doesn't have enough money, they tend to steal, rob and whatever else it takes to get it. If a person had the money they needed, they wouldn't need to steal, rob and hurt other people to get it.
On the other hand, if someone has too much money, they tend to ignore the needs of other people and somewhat self-absorbant. This, then, brings another question to mind -- What exactly is too much money? I guess that would depend on how much money you have at the current time you ask that question.
Power?
Well, I guess one would have to define power to determine if power would make them happy. Power over people? Power over one's self. Ahhh...that would seem the ultimate to me.
Good Health?
Some people believe that if they have their health, that's all they need. I suppose health is extremely important, as long as one doesn't take good health for granted.
Friends?
Interaction with other people is very important, and I sure would prefer having friends to enemies. The thing to remember here is that there is a difference between acquaintances and friends. So many times we call people our friends when they are really just coworkers, neighbors and the like. This is not to say that these people are not our friends ... but, we must consider what a friend truly is. Those that you call your friends ... are they only there in times of fun and happiness, or are they there when you truly need them? Would you do for them as you would yourself, and would they do the same for you?
In Conclusion
I think a combination of all of the above is what it takes to be happy. The following are my ideas of what it takes to be truly happy:
