SUNRISE—By A Disciple
(Written after seeing the sun rise on Mount Washington.)
When the Sun-God,
Above the horizon
Raises aloft
His shield of golden fire,
And the keynote of Day
Is borne to men
From the vibrating colors
Of Dawn's lyre.
His glance first rests
Upon the purple hills
Whose peaks
Burn with a flame ethereal,
Lighted by priestesses of temple Earth—
Candles in sconces
On an azure wall!
