Resident Population
In mid 1998, 3,900 people lived in Kempsey of which 19 per cent were aged under 16, 54 per cent were aged between 16 and 59, and 27 per cent were aged 60 and over.
A total of 44 live births to mothers usually resident in Kempsey and 53 deaths of residents of the ward were registered in 1998. These represented crude rates of 11 births and 14 deaths per thousand residents compared with 9 and 13 respectively across the whole of Malvern Hills.
Health
In May 1998, 2 per cent of the resident population of Kempsey received Disability Living Allowance. This is a benefit payable to people who are disabled, and need help with personal care, getting around or both, before the age of 65.
