Volunteer Tutors

Volunteer tutors come from all walks of life. Many are retirees, some are college students, others are business professionals, store clerks, and homemakers. Their common charactersitic is the desire to help others better their literacy skills.

The only qualifications for volunteer tutors are the ability to read, the ability to give one or two hours a week to tutor, and the ability to keep track of your student's progress. Volunteers help adults learn to read, and/or learn to speak and understand English better. GED students who are not able to attend classes also need tutors to help them study the five subject areas covered on the GED exam, including math, English, social studies, science, and literature.

CLLP is an affiliate of ProLiteracy America and tutor training is conducted using Literacy Volunteers materials. Student and tutor materials are provided free of charge.

If you would like more information on becoming a volunteer tutor, please send an email to: commerce@koyote.com or call (903) 886-6858.
