Chapter 28

HEARTMATES

by Rhoda Levin
Are our Internet visitors familiar with this book? I am reading it now, and find it excellent - even though I'm the patient and am single. It is written in a conventional style, and obviously is first-hand knowledge. The author offers suggestions of things you really could do!

LIFE ROW

by Ed Linz
This book is a heart transplant resource. A former submarine captain, a high school teacher and coach, he is now an author and speaker. He spoke at a recent Mid-Atlantic Region Fall Workshop. Ed, a member of MHI Chapter 200, is a dynamic, energetic, positive speaker. I feel everyone facing the possibility of a transplant would find this book most informative. It does not gloss over anything, it is not all sunshine and roses, but he truly tells it like it was for him and his family. His "ten steps for surviving an extended medical crisis" would help any family facing such a crisis, cardiac or otherwise, For example, he describes the essential role a "casserole manager" (a neighbor or friend) can play in helping retain the spouse's sanity!
(Exchange Publishing; Spokane, WA; 1997; ISBN 0-9656895-0-6; $16.00)
review by Dorothy Leftwich (She got her copy signed at the convention. Ed was one of the speakers.)
