York County Virginia: 1669 Deposition of Richard Shurley
..."Richard Shurley judged age 27 or 28 [b 1641/2] says that John Wood was to have 2 1/2 bar of corn of said deponent, belonging to Robert Asher. And he went with Asher to Wood's house about his bill. Mr. Wood saying, unless he would give him a hog, 1/2 yr old and 3 fat pigs, he would not deliver said Asher his bill. At first Wood said he had the hog of Mr. Wheeler, and after, upon contest of Mr. Asher, said Wood acknowledged to have received it of Asher..24 March 1669"
