See the smoke on the "Three railers club". I do believe this is from a 2-8-8-2 steam engine. Those numbers mean that there are 2 leading wheels, 8 drivers, 8 more drivers and then 2 trailing wheels. Leading wheels help keep the engine on the track. Freights usually only had two while passenger engines would have four because they went much faster. The driving wheels on a freight engine were smaller for "more power" and the passenger engines would run up to six feet in diameter for speed once again. The trailing wheels helped carry the weight of the fire box.
