APPROPRIATE TOUCHES
What to say and do

Supports: Language Arts; Social Skills[social studies]

Most of the programs I have viewed
and "The Committee for Children", publishers of "Second Step",
recommend the "good choices" lessons for problem solving
to teach kindergarten students good touch/bad touch.
SAY:"When someone touches you in a way you do not like,
do this"...

SAY, "NO" !
Use a LOUD voice
and say,

"NO,
I DO NOT LIKE THAT".

Then...RUN AWAY

Tell an adult!

If the adult you tell does not seem to hear you,

GO TELL ANOTHER ADULT !

Tell your Mother.
Tell your Dad.
Tell your teacher.
Tell your counselor.
Tell the school nurse.
Tell your principal.
TELL

TELL

TELL !!!!!

TELL AN ADULT !

Problem Solving Method:
Slow down
Stop and think
Ask yourself, "What is the problem?"
Think about what you can do.
Ask yourself, "What might happen if...."
(IS MY IDEA SAFE? IS IT FAIR? WILL IT WORK?)
Choose an idea and use it.
Ask,
"Is it working?
If your idea is not working,

Ask yourself,
"WHAT CAN I DO NOW?"

Invite your counselor into your classroom
for three sessions the beginning of our next school year.
During the third session we will use roll play to practice refusal skills.
