Attendance Policy

For Sycamore High School's Physical Education Department

Physical Education Absence Policy

Short Term Absences

If a student is absent from class more than five days per quarter, he/she must make up all days missed beyond the five-day limit. The student must complete make-up classes within two weeks following the return to school after the qualifying absence. Failure to make up required classes will result in 5% penalty in each of the graded 4 areas per class missed.

Long Term Absences

Students who are absent or unable to participate due to illness or injury for five weeks or longer during the first quarter of class will be rescheduled to another semester. If the absence occurs five weeks during the second quarter, the student can remain in the class if he/she has a "C" average. The student must fulfill the requirement by writing reports and assisting the instructor.

Unexcused Absences

Absences from class caused by out-of-school suspension are considered unexcused with no make up privileges available to the student and will result in 5% penalty in each of the graded 4 areas per class missed. Failure to dress for class, or class cutting, are also considered unexcused absences and will result in 5% penalty in each of the graded 4 areas.

Illnesses

A student who is in school but unable to take physical education, must have a written note from a parent. If the illness lasts longer than one day, a doctor's note will be required with the exception of obvious injuries. Participation forms to be signed by a doctor are available from you counselor or your physical education teacher. Your doctor's permission to participate after injury is required
