The clear area is the inner ledge with Bodhisattvas.
THE BODHISATTVAS
Looking similar to
the Tathagatas, the six couples of Bodhisattvas are represented twice on
the ledge at the ground level of the Mind Mandala; once with the male as
main deity, once with the female as main deity. They are depicted the same
as the Tathagatas. The Bodhisattvas confer the 'conduct initiation' (see Alternative
Kalacakra).

The Bodhisattvas correspond
to the development of the 6 senses in the embryo during the 5th month.
Move your mouse
slowly over below Mind Mandala to see the names of the deities pop up.
The clear areas are the Mind Mandala gates where the Protectors
reside.
THE PROTECTORS
All below 6 Protector
couples (or Wrathful Deities) are included when depicting only the Mind
Mandala of Kalacakra, but Sumbha and Raudrakshi with their consorts actually
belong to the Body Mandala.
They are located in
the entrance Gates of the Mind Mandala
In the full Body, Speech
and Mind Mandala no less than 60 Protectors are placed. The ones below
stand in the manner of Kalacakra and Vishvamata (see the detail on the
right of Vighnantaka embraced by Stambhini).
The Protectors or Wrathful
deities confer the 'name giving' initiation (see also Alternative
Kalacakra).
