LIMITS
Thaddeus Trenn, written April 16, 1990
What we do not know we must believe
just take it on authority
that 2 plus 2 is always 4
how earth can cruise around the sun
genetic code's now on the run
yielding secrets of our race
quasars, holes in outer space
the universe ours to explore --
once causes, reasons, facts galore
ordered, loaded, data banked
accessed, filed, at our command
won't need to puzzle whom to trust
all nature's spread before our eyes
as wonder ceases to surprise
each mystery solved, disclosures ranked
no secret can elude our kind
when sorted, stored in super brain --
yet what a bore -- all's on recall!
there's just one more, opaque, abstruse ...
why do this silly exercise
if still we die?
