DIFFICULT

Jan Twardowski (translated by Malgorzata Koraszewska & Sarah Lawson)

So you see -- said Mother
you renounced a family home
a woman
a child who is always running because it wants to fly
love constricting your throat

and now you are disturbed
by the cup with the blue rim
my empty place at the table
shoes which you said are
like all the others -- to sell
and not to wear --
a watch which still goes after death
you are knocking on the invisible window pane
like a heron you are staring at one point
you see how easy it is to renounce
how difficult to lose.
