In the World Wars, the Germans took away freedom of the press in the Netherlands. As a form of resistance, the Dutch illegally printed documents and newspapers in the World Wars. (shown above)

The Germans also made the Dutch turn in all metals. They took away everything from church bells to money. In resistance, the Dutch minted their own money (shown above) from melting down silverware or jewelry.
