What do you think?
1. Why do you think it took almost a hundred
years for women and blacks to be guaranteed
voting rights?
2. The road to suffrage rights was not an easy one
for African-Americans or women.  Why did so
many people fight so hard for something that
today, few people do?  (only 49% of U.S.
citizens voted in the 1996 presidential election)
3. The 26th Amendment, guaranteeing 18 year
olds the right to vote, once proposed, passed
with much more ease than the 15th and 19th
Amendments.  Why do think this was true?
