Where did my home page go?
-
You uploaded or edited your page, but the old one still appears in your
browser:
-
Use the "reload" or "refresh" function of your browser to see the new
version.
-
Check that you named the new page correctly. Lower and upper case
(capitalization) matters! so does spelling! You can view the
files on your site using the File
Manager Utility.
-
If you used FTP to upload your page, there is a delay. It might
be a few hours if Geocities is very busy. Look again later.
And be sure you used the correct member name and password when you used
the FTP program. Check the Geocities FTP Procedures help page.
-
Your whole site has disappeared and you find the site empty or with
somebody else's material there: Using your member name, or the email
address you used when you signed up, visit the "lost
password" page.
-
If your member name or email address aren't found, then just sign up
for a new page. Geocities probably reclaimed your page:
-
because you didn't make changes to a new site in their grace period
-
because you had long abandoned a site
-
because Geocities found violations of their member guidelines on your
page, and suspended the page.
-
because you left your password in view on the
page (the most common error is to include it as part of the counter link),
or it was easy to guess from your member name or content on the page, or
a "friend" in your life found the password and decided to play a practical
joke on you -- and the person who found or guessed your password removed
your membership from geocities
-
In any of these cases where your name or email address is unknown to
Geocities, simply sign
up for a new site. If you have backups of
your files (use your browser's "save as" functions to save pages that you
edited using Geocities utilities, otherwise keep copies if you edit the
pages with another page editor on your computer), then put them on the
new site.
-
If your member name or email address is found, check your email
for the correct address of your site and go check it there.
-
If your member name is found, and you don't receive the email with the
password from the "lost password" utility, and you find material on your
site different from what you put up there, you probably revealed your password.
See above. If the password is still as you
left it, you can change it again (to something less available!) and restore
your site from backups (see above). Otherwise,
sign up for a new site under a different member name.
How do I upload my page?
-
You can upload the page using the Geocities
EZ-Upload Utility, Geocities
File Manager or using an FTP
program.
-
Geocities
EZ-Upload Utility: The easiest way to upload if you:
-
Geocities
File Manager: You can use the various file managers to edit your pages.
If you already have the HTML coding done and it's already in a file on
your system, open the HTML file with a text editor (or use whatever option
your page-editing gives you to look at your HTML in text form). Cut-and-paste
the HTML code into the Advanced
File Manager.
-
FTP:
follow the instructions on the FTP program, specifying your Geocities member
name and password. Be sure you are uploading to ftp.geocities.com.
Be sure you keep capitalization and spelling exactly as you have specified
them in any links to your page.

How do I get rid of those geopops?
What happened to my counter???
-
If you have a Geocities counter
-
Geocities counters have been acting strangely for a while, resetting
to very high numbers or resetting to zero. Visit the counter
management pages to reset your counters.
-
If you set your counter before late 1997, then the procedures have changed,
and you should update your counter at the Geocities
counter management pages.
-
Check the Geocities
counter help pages.
-
Visit one of the counter services (such as www.digits.com)
and install their counter instead of or in addition to the Geocities counter.
-
Counters from other services
-
Check the documentation with your counter service
-
Be sure to check capitalization and spelling on the URL (web address)
that you've used to specify the counter location.

How do I put music on my page?
Check out the page at Crescendo
to see several techniques for adding "midi" (.mid) files to your page. ("Midi" files take less space for the length of the musical piece, compared to a "WAVE" (.wav) file of the same music.)
And no, to my knowledge, you cannot put RealAudio files on Geocities.
