Leonard was born in 1730 and his wife Joanna LETTON Hall was born in Prince George Co, MD 1732. Their children were: Ruth, Prudence, Naomi, Mahlon, Caleb, Grace, Joanna, Sgt.Major william , Elizatbeth, Henry and Sarah.

The family lived in Bedford Co., VA during the period of 1776. Leonard received land from the then Governor, Patrick Henry, for work in the French-Indian Wars. Leonard and Joanna were married in Maryland and moved to Bedord Co., VA around 1756, according to 1890 records of the Library of the Kentucky Library Historical Society Frankfort, KY.

The will of Leonard's recorded in the Will Inventory of the BarrenCo. Court, dated March 1,1809 (page 104). The Widow's Dower to Joanna, 1/3 of estate. For the balance due heirs, she gave her note. Received April, 1809 County Court (page 108). Copy in Library of Kentucky Historical Society, Frankfort, KY, Scott Co. Deed Block 1, Page 28. Bedford Co. will: Two free males above 21, two white tithes above 16, 13 slaves, 12 horses and 25 cattle.

Leonard owned land in the 1780's in Lincoln, Fayette and Clark counites. Settled in Barren County i the 1800's. The Lincoln Co. land, 1400 acres, was in Fayette. Documented by Mrs. Joseph McCracken, Jr., 4401 Highland Drive, Dallas, TX 75205.
