Who is Lucy Lawless? Xena, of course, the Warrior Princess - hero (heroine, if you like) of one of the greatest TV shows of all times.
Just think about the concepts: Here we have a show set in Ancient Greece, at the time of Greek mythology, where Zeus and his cronies rule the world, dropping the odd illegitimate god-child amongst humanity every now and then.
In this setting, we find Xena, the Warrior Princess (eeehm, Princess? I seem to recall an episode where her mother was an inn-keeper... Hmmm, I'm sure that was explained somewhere... Maybe Xena married a Prince? Naaah, don't think so, she's not the marrying kind - I must look into this question...)
Anyway, there is Xena, the Warrior Princess, doing her Japanese Samurai act (complete with some jumps which definitely require the assistance of the gods... I don't think I've seen her jump backwards up onto a building yet, but I think that's just a matter of time), while exploring some 20th century feminist issues. Too cool for words.
Add to that an Ancient Greece which looks VERY MUCH like New Zealand (and why not, that's where the show is filmed), some witty one-liners which could have come from Groucho Marx, some most imaginative end-credit disclaimers, a smattering of deep philosophical issues (some causes are worth fighting for, but are they worth killing for ... and so on).
And let's not forget the exploration of human sexuality, with Xena and her off-sider Gabrielle (now THERE is a name right out of Ancient Greek mythology...), who are clearly far more than "just friends", thus causing endless Usenet discussions about their REAL relationship...
And, on top of all that, we have a never-ending stream of comic-book-type baddies, good looking heroes of both genders, PLENTY of rippling muscle, bare midriffs, and ample bosoms proudly displayed in (nearly) all their glory...
... and you end up with a genre-fusion of untold proportion. This show has something for everyone, and it is presided over by Xena in form of Lucy Lawless, by all accounts actually a very interesting person in r/t, but certainly a stunner to look at - undoubtedly the coolest strong woman on TV at present. Not to mention that she has the coolest war-cry since Geronimo...
So keep it up Lucy, continue to entertain us, and have lots of fun doing the show!
