Fortune gives us many keys...but it is us who must open the door

Every day, countless times, an opportunity opens up to us. It may not seem like much at the time, but over time, all of those tiny chances will add up. Perhaps as you walk out of a building, the church bells are singing. It only takes a moment to listen. Maybe that shirt you just loved in the window went on sale today. Perhaps you had a few extra moments before your child went to school today so you could stop and give him a hug. Little things contribute to the quality of life in subtle, but definate ways.

To show this in a less abstract manner, I began a minor project. Whenever I happen to find a coin in the street, or get back incorrect change from a vending machine, I put that small sum into a glass from which the stem is broken. I began to do this a couple of months ago, but the glass is more than half full already... half full on small opportunities that other people ignored.

Over this summer, much has happened to my chance cup. The original glass broke in travel, but do not despair! I now have a "Chance Decanter" that showed up at my family reunion very soon after I had found the broken glass. However, in honor of the original chance cup, the background of this page has temporarily been changed to black.
Also over the summer, my chance decanter nearly doubled in value. I now have
$8.04 in tiny opportunities overlooked by others.
