Campus mothers

An increasing number of female students are becoming mothers. We examine how raising children affects the lives of these students. Issues such as daycare, health and income are discussed.

Breaking away in Bloomington

One of the best things about living in Bloomington is the biking environment. Special bike paths are scattered throughout the city, and neighborhoods tend to be quiet and traffic on streets relatively light. The city is the site of two major cycling events: the Little 500 and Hoosiers Hills Race. There are also many bike shops for riders' biking needs.

Rape prevention

The annual FBI uniform crime statistics report that Bloomington has above average incidences of rape. Women are learning how to take care of themselves with a variety of self-defense methods from martial arts to pepper spray to strategic maiming. A look at what Bloomington women are doing to protect themselves from violent sexual assault.

What to do about the high cost of education

Indiana University students are facing another tuition hike for next fall's classes. It's becoming harder and harder to make ends meet. We talked with a number of students and financial aid officers to find out how to manage the high cost of a college education.

Single occupants in dorm rooms

More and more, campus housing is allowing single occupants in dormitory rooms. Students prefer the space so that they can have more freedom for their studies and extra-curricular lives.

IU libraries

Chances are you haven't spent much time this semester in any of the libraries on campus. You are wasting a valuable opportunity to improve your education. From the Main Library to the Lilly Special Collections, IU's library services offer students a variety of academic aid.

Underage drinking in a college town

Because federal highway funding is tied to each state having a 21-year-old drinking age limit, college campuses today are hotbeds of underage drinking. Many students are finding ways to get fake ID's, others simply find liberal tavern owners who will supply them with adult beverages and still others look to upper classmen and graduate students to buy their stock of Budwesier and Miller Hi-Life for them. The law also means the police are spending a lot of valuable time locking up underage drinkers.
