Bloomington North Basketball has established its place among the elite programs in the state of Indiana. In the past six years the Cougars have won 125 games while losing only 19. During this time, four players have been named to the Indiana All-Star Team, including 2000 Mr. Basketball and Trester Award winner Jared Jeffries. Last year’s squad became the first in the history of Monroe County to go through the regular season undefeated on their way to a state runner-up finish.
Six lettermen return to anchor the Cougars in 2000-2001. All-conference junior forward Sean May returns with 15 points and 10 rebounds per game. Senior forward Clay Ludlow (2 points, 2 rebounds) has shown great improvement along with senior guard Scott May (3 points, 2.3 assists). Both look to provide leadership along with senior guard Kelvin Boatner, who averaged 7 points and 2 rebounds per game in his first year at North. Sophomore guard Errek Suhr (4.5.points, 2.5 assists) will once again provide depth at that position. Junior John Allman will contribute greatly after dividing time between the varsity and reserve teams.
Prospects returning from the 14-6 reserve team include junior Brian Mack and sophomores Nick Sexton, Bil Duany, Mark Hillenburg, Jordan Beasley, John Rabold, Kyle Kixmiller, and Steve Reed. Sophomore Josh Morrow also returns along with Junior Moussa Kante. Freshman Anthony Lindsey joins the program after quarterbacking the varsity football team.
The freshman team looks to build on the tradition of the program. They are looking for a great season of learning and skill development. The team boasts much depth at the guard position with Drew Adams, Josh Macy, Andrean McCoy, among others. A front line of Josh Norris, Michael Philippsen, Tom Oestriech, Kyle Thomas and Andrew Butler look to improve throughout the year to provide much needed rebounding and scoring.
