Caramat District School is a small isolate school, with a student population of approximately seventeen students. The hamlet of Caramat is an unorganized community of about 150 people, about 400 km northeast of Thunder Bay. Geographically, Caramat is divided into two sections. One residential area includes the school. These students walk to and from school daily. The other section is approximately 1.5 km from the school.

The original brick section of the school was built in 1962, and consisted of two classrooms. In 1983, an addition was built which included two classrooms, a staff room and a small storage room.

Caramat District School offers programming from Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight for English as a first language (ELIU) and for French as a first language (FLIU). The ELIU occupies two classrooms, and the FLIU occupies one classroom.
