All About the Author
Vonnie Downey
I am an Elementary Music Teacher currently residing in Odessa, Tx. I have lived here for 16
years. I teach Kindergarten through Sixth Grade in general music.
Family:
I have 3 daughters. Born on June 7, 1992,
is my oldest Bridgette Lynette who was born
at 11:45 p.m. and has continually been a joy in my life. Almost three
years later Erin Alanna was
born at 3:20 p.m. on March 31, 1995. Finally the third and last daughter Kyla Shae was born at 10:29 on February 13, 1997. All of
their photos can be looked at here.
Education:
I grew up in Lakeland, FL, where I attended both Lake Gibson Junior and
Lake Gibson Senior High School. While in school I was active in band, choir,
and drama. I received my diploma from Lake Gibson Senior High in June 1984.
In September 1994, I began my college career at Florida
Southern College. This school is located in Lakeland, FL, so I did
not move far from home. My experiences there were invaluable and I found
many friends and my wife-to-be. December 1988, I graduated with my Bachelor
of Music Education Degree.
Experience:
Working has been an experience. My first college job was working at Disney
World. While at Disney I worked at Jungle Cruise, Big Thunder Mountain
Railroad, and Haunted Mansion. Meeting so many different people each day
gave me an appreciation for listening to people and helping them the best
way you can.
After graduation I worked as a Kindergarten Aide for the Polk County
School Board in Polk County, FL. This allowed me to gain experience while
the current school year finished out.
In August 1989, I was hired to be Elementary Music Specialists
by Ector County Independent School District in Odessa, TX. This of course
required that we move 1400 miles from our home in Florida. Luckily I had
relatives in Big Spring, TX, so I still had someone I knew living close
by. I am currently in my 17th teaching year and still enjoying it.
Community:
At the Permian Playhouse I have had the opportunity to share the stage with
many wonderful people from this area known as the Permian Basin. I have appeared
or worked on the following productions.
