We humans have always wondered where we came from, why our world works the way it does, and what our purpose is for living. Each culture of humanity, from the dawn of civilization, has developed complex stories to attempt to explain these mysteries~~the stories called myths. As Joseph Campbell stated, myths offer us guidance through the experience of living.
Myths operate under many names~~legends, faerie tales, fables, parables, religious teachings~~but each carries within it a measure of truth. From the bedtime stories that comforted us as children to the Archetypal Psychology of Jung and Hillman, myth touches the soul and offers us a glimpse into something larger and more profound than we anticipate. I'm ever amazed at the ways in which I see myth played out in my own life and the lives of those around me. From birth to death, and at all stages in between, myth and life reflect one another.
