The Romanesque cathedral in Embrun (13th century).
Here the Waldensians were solemnly sentenced to death and
then brought at the stake...
Those who agreed to abjure and submitted themselves were
given a series of penance, among which:
to hang a yellow cloth cross on the breast and one upon
their shoulders for 14 years
to confess their sins and to take Holy Communion periodically
to pay a fine
to go on a pilgrimage to a sanctuary holding a candle
(from A. Molnar, Storia dei Valdesi, Claudiana 1974).
