Jesus Christ did not come into this world by
accident. He did not come by chance. He didn’t come on a whim or sudden impulse.
Jesus Christ came because God loved the world. Before the Earth was formed,
before God created man, He planned to send Jesus. Jesus Christ came to this
Earth because God so loved the world. Jesus was a man with a mission.
Jesus Christ did not come into existence
when He was born of the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem. Jesus is eternal – He
has always been and always will be because He is God. The Apostle John
wrote, "In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the
word was God (I John 1:1)." Before there was even a man there was Jesus!
Before there was even a world there was Jesus! He was with God and He was
God. He didn’t He wasn’t in need of anything. He was and is God. He owns
the riches of Heaven and the cattle on a thousand hills. He is God.
Jesus left Heaven and came to Earth
as a Man with a Mission. He left the riches of Heaven because of love.
God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son
You know what a mission is – a goal,
an assignment, a purpose. What mission did the Father give to Jesus? Let’s
look to the Bible to define Christ’s mission.
Jesus came to fulfill the Law
"Think
not that I am come to destroy the law or the prophets: I am come not to
destroy, but to fulfill." (Matt 5:17)
Jesus was sent to preach the Kingdom
of God
And he said unto them, I must preach the kingdom of God to other
cities also: for therefore am I sent. Luke 4 :43
Jesus came to bear witness of the Truth
Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came
I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one
that is of the truth heareth my voice. John 18:37
Jesus came to provide abundant life
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy:
I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
John 10:10
Jesus came to judge the human heart
And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which
see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind. John 9:39
Jesus came to save the world
I am
come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not
abide in darkness. And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge
him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. John
12 :46
Jesus came to serve and give His Life
for us
And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:
Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister,
and to give his life a ransom for many. Matt 20:27,28
Jesus came to seek out the lost
And
Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch
as he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man is come to seek and
to save that which was lost. Luke 19:9,10
Jesus came to save sinners
This is
a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came
into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 1 Tim 1:15
Jesus was a Man with a Mission.
What
a mission!
What a Man!
No mortal man could do it. Only Jesus could fulfill this mission.
Only Jesus could do all this!
Fulfill the law – all have sinned
Preach the Kingdom of God
Bear witness of the Truth
Give abundant life
Seek out the lost
Give His life a ransom
Save the world
Only Jesus has the means to accomplish
this mission. How would He do it? What was His plan? God had a plan from
the foundation of the world. His plan was Jesus!
Jesus Became Man’s Substitute!
Psalm 69:9 For the zeal of thine
house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee
are fallen upon me.
Isaiah 53:5 But he [was] wounded
for our transgressions, [he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement
of our peace [was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
Gal 3: 13 Christ hath redeemed us
from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written,
Cursed [is] every one that hangeth on a tree:
1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also hath
once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us
to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
Jesus Bore the Sins of Many
Isaiah 53:12 Therefore will I divide
him [a portion] with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the
strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered
with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession
for the transgressors.
Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered
to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear
the second time without sin unto salvation.
1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare
our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should
live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
1 John 3:5 And ye know that he was
manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
Jesus Carried the Burdens of Humanity
Isaiah 53:4 Surely he hath borne
our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten
of God, and afflicted.
Matt 8:17 That it might be fulfilled
which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities,
and bare [our] sicknesses.
Jesus Offered Himself as a Sacrifice
God is a Holy God. His Holiness
demands a penalty for the sin of all mankind. There is always a price for
sin. But this was a price that man could never pay. Man has nothing to
offer that is acceptable to God.
Jesus offered Himself to God as
a sacrifice for the sins of all mankind.
John 15:13 Greater love hath no
man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the
love [of God], because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay
down [our] lives for the brethren.
Only Jesus could do it!
God would
not be satisfied any other way. Jesus is the only Way. All man can do is
accept Jesus. Whosoever believeth on Him should not perish but have everlasting
life. Only in Jesus is there life everlasting!
