WHAT GOD SAYS ABOUT SEX IN SACRED SCRIPTURE

Any discussion of the biblical portrayal of conjugal love cannot ignore the Canticle of Canticles (also known as the Song of Songs or Song of Solomon). This book of the Bible reveals the goodness of marital love by using it as a metaphor for Christ's love for His Church.

"Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and shall cleave to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. The man and the woman were both naked, and were not ashamed" -Genesis 2:24-25

"When a man has recently taken a wife, he shall not go our to war, neither shall any public business be enjoined him, but he shall be at home without fault, that for one year he may rejoice with his wife" -Deuteronomy 24:5

"Rejoice with the wife of your youth: like a loving hind or graceful doe, let her breasts satisfy you at all times, and be continually enrapured by her love."-Proverbs 5:18-19

"Live joyfully with the wife you love, all the days of your unsteady life, which are given you under the sun" -Ecclesiastes 9:9

"Let the husband render the debt to her wife, and the wife also in like manner to the husband. The wife does not have power of her own body, but the husband, and the husband likewise does not have power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud not one another, except, perhaps by mutual consent, for a time, that you may give yourselves to prayer; and return together again, lest Satan tempt you for your incontinency" -I Corinthinans 7:3-5

"Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever else you do, do all to the glory of God" -I Corinthians 10:31
("Whatever else you do" would undoubtably include marital relations)

"To the pure all things are pure" -Titus 1:15

"Marriage is honorable among all, and the marriage bed undefiled (sacred)" -Hebrews 13:4
