The book Touch For Health (used as a text in TFH classes) is a gold mine of information and contains many excellent photographs and drawings depicting muscles, positions for muscle testing, acupuncture meridians, and massage points. However, it is best to take a TFH class to ensure that you are using the techniques correctly. A chiropractor, kinesiologist, or school of massage therapy may be able to help you locate a TFH class in your area.
Once you know TFH, you will probably find yourself using it frequently to treat injuries, physical problems (colds, coughs, headaches, earaches, back and joint pain, acne, allergies, digestive upsets, etc.) and emotional symptoms (such as fatigue, stress, depression, or excessive crying).
In a typical TFH treatment, the strength of certain indicator muscles is tested. If a muscle is found weak, corresponding points on the body are touched or massaged to restore balance to the associated meridian. (A meridian is an energy pathway in the body used in Oriental medicine.)
For example, suppose that a child with dyslexia has persistent weaknesses in the psoas muscle (kidney meridian) and in the supraspinatus muscle (central or conception vessel meridian). If the energy imbalance is corrected and nutritional support is provided, the child is likely to experience more success and less frustration in learning to read. Of course, it is still necessary to provide effective instruction appropriate for the child's learning style. See Educational Approaches for more information.
TFH is just one of many branches of kinesiology. If you are interested in having a professional kinesiologist work with your child, you may wish to seek a practitioner from one of the following branches:
