Flipping for Flat Stanley

  Flat Stanley has been flattened to width of a pancake.  He has traveled to many places since he became so flat.  You are about to join Flat Stanley and go on some wild adventures also!

Get Ready to GET FLAT!!!

    You will be given  7 tasks.  At the end of 2 weeks, you will be responsible for completing each task.  These projects will be turned in and graded based on the criteria I give you in class.

Task # 1

Flat Stanley had his own style.  Now it's your turn to be creative.  Decorate your Flat Stanley using paint, markers, glitter, crayons, tissue paper, and colored pencils.  Think of what you like, what your hobbies are, and what your favorite things are.  Use these ideas to decorate Stanley for his trip!  Let's get FLAT creative!

Task # 2

As Flat Stanley travels, you will also be traveling.  During your travels you are expected to keep a journal.  Click here to read a child named Garnet tell about his travels.  Click here to read Cinderella's journal.  After reading these journals, you are now ready to get your very own journal ready.  Go to the journal making station to get your supplies and create your journal.

Task # 3

We will send Flat Stanley to someone in another state.  Click here to learn how to write a friendly letter.  Remember the parts of the letter because you will use those to write your own letter.

Task # 4

Is the body really flat?? If we were flattened, would our body still work properly?

* Click here to learn about your body.  On your human body sheets, label the major parts.  Write a sentence about what each system does.

Task # 5

After your Stanley has come back from his trip, you will do the following.
1) Click here to find out how far it is from Glen St. Mary to where Stanley visited.
2) Click here to learn about the state that Stanley visited.  Use the handout I provide.  You will draw a picture of each state symbol.  Then, write a summary about 4 things you learned about the state Stanley went to.

Task # 6

Stanley went and visited different people and found out about their careers and jobs.  What do you want to be when you grow up?  Click here to find out more about a job you might like to do one day.

Choose your favorite subject at the above site and then pick a career.  Write a paragraph telling me the following things:
1)what they do
2)what the job is like
3)how to prepare
4)pay
5)other jobs like it

Task # 7

Can you imagine what it must be like to be mailed in an envelope to travel to another place? There are many ways to travel.  Create a vehicle using pattern block shapes that Stanley could travel in.  Click here to design it and then print it.
 

You are now finished with all your tasks.  Check to make sure you have all your tasks and put them in order. Punch with the hole puncher and tie with yarn.
