Grand Canyon Exploration


 
 


You are about to set out on the biggest adventure of your life!  You will be exploring the Grand Canyon over the next nine weeks.  During the next nine weeks, you will learn about habitats, plants, animals, maps, and history.  Each week you will do new activities and learn new things.  So get your brain and imaginations ready because HERE WE GO!!

WEEK 1
The Grand Canyon is a beautiful place in Arizona.  Look here to see where Arizona is.  In class you will look at pictures and photos of the Grand Canyon.
 


WEEK 2
Many animals live in the desert and the Grand Canyon.
 

In class we will also be reading our science books to learn about the types of animals and what a omnivore, carnivore, and herbivore is.

WEEK 3
Many types of plants live in the desert and the Grand Canyon.
 

WEEK 4
The Grand Canyon is one of the most amazing land forms in the world. As a class we will be taking a quiz to see how much we know about different land forms.
  WEEK 5
In order for people to explore the Grand Canyon, they had to know how to read a map.  There are many types of maps that you will learn about.

          How far is it from?
        1.Merritt Island to Glen St. Mary
        2.Jacksonville to Glen St. Mary
        3.Glen St. Mary to Grand Canyon

        Write the distance in your journal for each.

Example: 1. Merritt Island to Glen St. Mary is ____________ miles.

WEEK 6
Now it is time to learn about the very first person to ever explore the Grand Canyon.
 

WEEK 7
Now that you have become experts on the Grand Canyon and the desert habitat, it is time for you to research a habitat or biome of your very own.
  In class you will choose a habitat to research.  Use the websites below to learn about your habitat.  Take notes about what animals and plants live there and what it looks like for next weeks assignment.

Now that you have finished your exploration you may go back to any of the websites you visited the last 9 weeks.  In your journal tell me 4 things you learned during this unit, tell me the 2 assignments you liked best, and tell me what you did not like or would have changed.
