Unlimited
Reiki - I. What is Reiki? Reiki is a specific
group of rays of the unlimited universal life-force energy that makes
all living things alive. It can be used to heal others, the planet and
ourselves. Mari-El, Johrei, and Reiki are three of these modalities. Mari-El heals the emotions first then the mind, body and spirit. Johrei works on the spirit then the emotions, mind and body. Reiki works first on the body level, then on the mental, emotional and spirit levels. Reiki works first on the body level then on the mental, emotional and spirit levels. Reiki is a form of hands-on healing. That is how Buddha and some say Jesus is said to have healed. As the practioner, you first fill your body with this universal life-force energy. Then you send this energy out through your hands into your client's body, giving every cell an opportunity to heal, harmonize and balance down to its DNA level and return to its anatomically perfect state. When you strike a tuning a fork and lay it down on the table the whole table vibrates at that same frequency. In the same manner your clients body begins to resonate at the frequency of the Reiki energy that you are bringing through. IMPORTANT: You are only the vehicle through which the energy is transmitted to the client; it is always the responsibility of clients to allow themselves to be healed. Universal life-force energy emanates from what I call The Source. The Source of all being is the singular force of creation, yet has many faces. Mountain, forest and river. Bird, boar and bear. Each reveals a different mood of the creator. You may wish to call it God, Buddha, Allah, Mary, Kuan Yin, the Supreme Being, the Father-Mother, Goddess, Lord and Lady or whatever else you resonate with. I find the Source a good generic term. The transfer of this life-force energy from the Source to the practioner is assisted by what are called Reiki Masters in Spirit. Again, not to get stuck on names you can think of them as guides, or angels that help bring down and present the Reiki energy in a form that can be easily utilized by you. I call the Reiki that I teach Unlimited Reiki for two reasons. One, given the willingness of the client to be healed, Reiki has no limitations on what it can treat or heal on body, mind and spirit levels. Two, through my Reiki trainings I teach and have people experience the true meanings of being limitless in all areas of their lives. I.
The History
of Reiki?
Sometime in Japan in the mid-1800’s, a man named
Dr. Mikao Usui began a quest to find out how Guatama Siddhartha, or Buddha
(620-543 B.C.), had healed with his hands. 28 years later Dr. Usui rediscovered
this ancient form of hands-on healing and called it Reiki. There
are varying accounts of Dr. Usui’s 28-year journey. Most however agree
with the following. Dr.
Usui initially and unsuccessfully, sought information on physical healing
from Japanese Buddhist teachings. After consulting with Buddhist monks
he found that the Buddhists of his time concentrated on healing the soul,
and left the healing of bodily ailments to medical doctors. After
a long search that included learning Chinese and Sanskrit, and joining
a Zen Monastery in Kyoto, he found some symbols and formulas in ancient
Sanskrit text of the Buddhist teachings that he felt might be keys to
healing. On consultation with his teachers at the monastery, he left for
the holy mountain of Koriyama to fast and meditate for 21 days, and to
ask for guidance on how to use this information. Choosing
a place to meditate, he counted the days with 21 small stones throwing
one away each day. Every day he fasted and meditated, and nothing unusual
happened until the morning of the 21st day. Dr. Usui arose
to a dark morning with no light in the sky. He asked ‘The Source’ to confirm
that he had indeed found the keys to healing, and to show him how to use
them. As he tossed the last stone off the mountain a light appeared in
the east and began to move towards him. Dr. Usui was at first frightened
and wanted to run. But realizing that after being on a quest for 28 years,
let alone a 21 day fast, this was not the time to run away from such an
experience, he quieted himself and stayed out. The light became so bright
that he thought he had died. Dr. Usui had never experienced such an exhilarated
state. His third eye was completely opened and he experienced a rainbow
of colors. This rainbow included bubbles of gold, blue and violet. Each
encasing a symbolic message. A powerful voice then said: “These are
the keys to healing. Learn them, and do not forget them. Do not allow
them to be lost.” This was
Dr. Usui’s attunement to the Reiki energy and it came all at once. After
absorbing all that he saw and heared, including the message od each bubble,
Dr. Usui said out loud. “I have the keys to healing, and I will not
forget them, and I will not allow them to be lost.”
When he came out of the meditative state, he collected his
senses and picked up his belongings. It was on his return journey that
what are called the “Four Miracles” occurred. Going
down the mountain, Dr. Usui tripped and stubbed his toe. He bent down
and placed his aching toe between his hands. Soon the pain and bleeding
stopped. Dr. Usui noticed that the energy coming from his hands was distinctly
different and that they were generating heat. This was the first miracle. Hungry,
Dr. Usui stopped at a private home that served travelers and ordered a
full meal (not waise after a 21 day fast). He digested this easily with
no discomfort. The second miracle. The
young girl who served Dr. Usui his food had a toothache, and her head
and jaw were wrapped in a bandage. Still euphoric after healing his toe,
he offered her a healing which she gladly accepted. He placed his hands
on her jaw and within a short period of time she no longer felt pain or
swelling. The third miracle. The fourth miracle occurred
upon Dr. Usui’s return to the monastery. One of his teachers was in pain
from an arthritis attack, which stopped when he sent this newly rediscovered
healing into the monk. Dr. Usui went to the slums
of Kyoto to use Reiki on the poor, dis-eased and crippled. Because of
their physical condition, many that he saw begged for their living, For
several years he worked long and hard giving healings. He began to notice
however, that many of those he treated for physical ailments continued
or returned to the life of begging. Frustrated that these people were
not taking responsibility for their lives he left the slums and searched
for what was missing in his work. Through his meditations, Dr. Usui gained insights that changed
his healing work. He realized that in offering his healings for free,
the recipient did not have to take any responsibility for the healing.
In order for healings to make any Permanent change he saw that an equal
exchange of energy, either monetary or through barter, must occur
between the person sending and the person receiving the Reiki energy.
Dr. Usui also learned that he had been focusing just on physical healing
and that true healing also included the mind, emotions and spirit. The
principles of Reiki (outlined later) were the results of these insights. Dr. Usui taught Reiki in Japan until his transition around
1930, and trained approximately 16 Reiki Masters. One of these Masters,
Mr. Chujiro Hayashi, was asked by Dr. Usui to be responsible for preserving
and passing on the teachings of Reiki. Mr. Hayashi established the first
Reiki clinic in Tokyo. While Dr. Usui attuned his students to all aspects
of Reiki at one time, Mr. Hayashi broke down the Reiki into three levels:
First, Second and Master Degree. Foreseeing the coming of World War II,
and its toll both on Reiki practioner’s in Japan and on the male population
in general, Mr. Hayashi trained a Japanese American woman living in Hawaii,
Mrs. Hawayo Takata. When Mr. Hayashi made his transition in 1941 it was
Mrs. Takata who became his successor, or the Grand Master, and who brought
Reiki to the U.S. and Canada. II. Reiki Comes to the U.S.Phyllis Furumoto, Mrs. Takata’s
granddaughter and the current Reiki Grand Master, founded the Reiki Alliance
in 1981, which until recently has been the primary source of Reiki instruction
in the United States. In general, members of the Reiki Alliance believe
that Sacred and Secret mean the same thing, and are protective of the
Reiki teachings. They have developed a method of Reiki training called
the Usui System of Natural Healing. This system requires certain intervals
of time (the duration seems to vary from a few months to several years)
between attunements to each Reiki degree. From a tradition that began
with Mrs. Takata, who thought that Westerners would not value Reiki training
unless they sacrificed monetarily in receiving it, the Reiki Alliance
asks its members to charge between $150-$200 for First Degree Reiki, $250-$950
for Second Degree and $10,000 for Masters Degree. (While the Alliances
way of teaching is not my truth, I respect their beliefs. I trust people
seeking Reiki training will intuit which teacher and method they can benefit
from most.) I call the Reiki that I teach Unlimited Reiki for two reasons. One, given the willingness of the client to be healed, Reiki has no limitations on what it can treat or heal on body, mind, spirit or emotional levels. Two, through Reiki trainings, I teach and have people experience the true meaning of being LIMITLESS in all areas of their lives. IV. What Can Reiki Do? Incredible Experiences happen
as a result of Reiki. My Husband was born with Lobster Claw Syndrome. The majority of those born with this disease do not have any fingers or hands. Mostly lumps of flesh. He was very lucky to be able to keep 7 of his fingers and 8 of his toes. From the time he can remember his arms have always ached. He has numerous reconstructive surgeries and was unable to work for 4 years until he met me. We met my Reiki Master John
Randall Shaw and went out to his center for a treatment and to see what
it was all about. My husband jumped
up onto the table and received his first ever Reiki treatment. We went
home and I actually thought it was kinda weird. The next evening I asked
if he needed his arms rubbed. He looked at his arms and then at me and
said, they don’t hurt. I said what do you mean they don’t hurt. They always
hurt. After almost 30 years of constant pain, it was gone. The following are experiences
from my Reiki Master: A 12 year old friend of mine
was hit by a car while he was on his bike. A rib was cracked and his arm
was so severely broken that the
medics thought he would need surgery. Three days later after Reiki they
took more X-rays to see if the surgery was warranted. To their astonishment
the bones weren’t cracked or broken anymore. A student had a malignant lump
in her breast. We did Reiki on it for a couple of weeks. On the day the
surgery was scheduled, her doctors did an X-ray to exactly locate the lump. It was gone and the doctors described
it as a miracle. My chiropractor was in a car accident and wasn’t expected
to walk pain free for 5 months. After being in the hospital for a couple
of days. She came home and I did a Reiki treatment on her. Immediately afterwards she walked up the stairs pain-free
and fell tremendous heat continue to radiates out of her body for hours.
She was up water skiing in 2 ˝ weeks. One of my best friends had cancer of the cervix. She was
scheduled for surgery a couple of weeks after we started doing long distance
Reiki. They did a 2nd biopsy on her right before surgery and
found no cancer in the cancer cells! These are just some of the phenomenal stories My Master and I have to tell about Reiki. My fellow Reiki practioner’s have all had their incredible successes as well, including having M.S. go into remission, stopping a man’s suicidal tendencies and dissolving a grapefruit in a 4-year old.
V. The Five Principles of Reiki Most researchers of Reiki agree
that Dr. Usui put forth five principles of Reiki. However, the exact translation
and contemporary meaning of these principles vary. Below the bold print
is my own interpretation of the five principles of Reiki, stated in a
positive manner, and that I feel are appropriate for our present time.
In parenthesis are some of the interpretations that you may find in other
literature. 1.
Just for today, I will have conscious awareness. (Just for Today, I will not
worry. Or Just for today I shall trust.) (Just for Today, I shall do
my work honestly. Or Earn your living honestly.) (Just for Today, I shall accept my blessings. Or Show gratitude for everything.) 4.
Just for today, I will live my own truth. The key to inner peace is to live your own truth; dis-ease and dis-darmony come from trying to live someone else's truth. You will derive energy by following your own path, your own intuition and wisdom. Your truth may change and evolve over time; allow that to happen and to be okay. Also, realize that you have a choice about how you feel and respond to people and situations. You can, for example, react with anger and take things personally, or you can stay centered within yourself. 5.
Just for today, I will honor each person to have their own truth. While following your own path in life, respect the paths that others have chosen for themselves. There are many roads to enlightenment --- thank goodness, otherwise their would be a traffic jam! Refrain from judging other people's choices; what may be best for you may not be for them. Remember it is fruitless to be angry at a caterpillar for not being a butterfly, and you cannot teach a caterpillar how to fly; the caterpillar is doing exactly what it needs to be doing for its own path in life. Both the caterpillar and butterfly come from the same diving Source. So be yourself, and honor others to be themselves.
